Symptoms

  • • Usually starts before age 6 in boys
  • • Muscle weakness beginning in the legs and pelvis
  • • Frequent falls, trouble running, jumping and climbing stairs
  • • Trouble getting up from lying down
  • • Progressive loss of walking (often a wheelchair by 12)
  • • Heart and breathing muscle weakness in teens and twenties
  • • Fatigue; sometimes learning difficulties
